Letter, 1864 Sept. 19, Demopolis, Ala., from George Washington Smith to his wife and children. The letter informs his wife of conditions in the camp. He mentions a great deal of sickness among the soldiers. Some of the soldiers, such as Jas. T. Collins, M.O. Moore, P.C. Wheeler, Asker South, Alfred Brock, and many others were in the hospital. He mentions that the Confederate forces were badly beaten at Atlanta, Ga., and a myraid of wounded soldiers have been passing camp for two weeks.
